anope won't configure
« on: July 14, 2007, 08:31:18 AM »

I'm running Ubuntu-server 7.0.4 and I keep getting this message when trying to run ./configure on anope-1.6.5

Do you want to use the MD5 message-digest algorithm to encrypt passwords?
(Selecting "yes" protects your passwords from being stolen if someone
gains access to the Services databases, but makes it impossible to recover
forgotten passwords. There is no way to reverse this operation, so make
sure you really want to enable it.)
./configure: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string

I have no idea what this could be...I downloaded the tar.gz to another debian based computer and it didn't give the error...what is going on ??

I'm running Unrealircd v3.2.7

This issue ended up being a bug, it's been fixed in svn.

I installed the latest dev version and it seems to have installed okay.

Is there any chance of having /msg NickServ SET GUARD ON in the future versions?

What exactly does /msg NickServ SET GUARD ON do?

If you mean changes your nick for not identifying, that would be /msg NickServ SET KILL ON and in the current devel release is enabled as a default option on registration (NSDefKill), but also by default a mask is added to the nicks access list in NickServ to prevent the person who registers the nick, from being Guest'ed which can in the current devel version be disabled by putting a # in front of NSAddAccessOnReg. But thats only in 1.7.* series and beyond.

No, I was simply meaning services such as ChanServ join your channel (thats what /msg ChanServ SET GUARD ON does).

It simply makes ChanServ idle in your channel.

no, the ability to join ChanServ to channels will  never be added to the core. Chanserv can't "guard" your channel anyway as it's useless in channels. I suggest you visit http://modules.anope.org
