What ircd do you use and are you sure your u-lines have been set correctly?

Hi, is there any chance you get get us a backtrace for that, and a list of any/all modules your using?

Oh, and is it an AMD 64 box?

This has been resolved. I was using a bad version of inspircd.c (downloaded from the inspircd website). I then upgraded to the latest SVN version and services work fine now.
