anope 1.7.22 can't run

yes I've searched, but couldn't find anything helpful. seems to run, but doesn't.
I don't know what the error load time/module returned errors mean or how to fix them
here's the log I get when running with -nofork

and I just removed gnutls transport, and get the same messages, anope doesn't actually run
seeing some of this:

which I have no idea what it means or if its even important

reinstall Anope as a normal NONROOT user and try again.

Step #1 of the install instructions state:

1) Installing Anope

    IMPORTANT NOTE: it is not recommended to use (and therefore install)
                    Anope as root. Use an unprivileged user instead -- the
                    one you're using for the ircd or a dedicated one will
                    be good enough.


Please follow ALL instructions, they are there for a reason other than our health.

I installed anope from RPM so your suggestion doesn't seem to apply (?!)

but I'll retry as a normal user and see what happens

Anope is not officially release in RPM format, so you have received it from an unofficial source. The only official place to get Anope is at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/anope/

Anope is only released in tar.gz or .exe format.

ok, now it's running, but it's not actually connected (!?)

Yes it is the ENTIRE logs, see for yourself,
and , it still unloads after 1-2 minutes

note:

I thought I had everything set right, anope runs, but it doesnt actually connect.
I see nothing in inspircd logs either, except this:

which isn't very helpful

and I'm kind of unclear whether I should have a U line for services or not ?
inspircd config section:

<link name="services.myserver.com"
ipaddr="localhost"
port="7000"
allowmask="127.0.0.0/8"
sendpass="penguins"
recvpass="penguins">

when I try anope 1.7.22 services to connect to port 7000 I get:
Read error from server: Broken pipe (error num: 32)
in my anope services logs
specifying port 6667 at least anope will run for a while, but only 1-2 minutes, and it never actually connects.
anope specification:
RemoteServer localhost 6667 "penguins"
LocalAddress localhost

although, removing LocalAddress has no effect

You need to name the link block the same as you specified ServerName in anope.conf, otherwise it won't work.

Yes, it is the same.

someone mentioned my inspircd link type was "client" and it shouldn't be, but I don't know how to change that.

that s your IRCD issue really....
for inspircd:  http://inspircd.org/wiki/Linking_To_Other_Servers

you can also run anope in debug to get more details and see what it s doing: ./services -debug -nofork

as for the log you pasted the first time, it wasn't complete:

that wiki link is useless, it's about connecting two irc servers, not one server and services.
services itself isn't a server.

this was sooo much easier with ultimateirc, if I could get it working...

i suggest you learn the IRC basics before attempting to continue...
Serivces, in this case Anope is and connects as a server to a network.

yes inspircd is hard to configure, that s not our fault/problem though, it s you who have to weigh the advantages of one ircd against its disadvantages for what you want to do with it.
and while i too did like ultimate for a while, development on it stalled.

and jfyi the link is not useless.. you didn't even bother reading the first header on it.
