Chanserv setting Topic
« on: January 19, 2007, 03:20:30 AM »

I have keeptopic turned on in my channels, but i don't want it appending the name of the person who last set the topic onto the topic when chanserv restores it.  Is there any way to stop that?

if you have mIRC you can duble click the channel window your in, and go to the end of the topic, and remove the name, ( plus when you first join the room the and some one else joins it, they wont  see it ) but if it dosnt work, and chanserv changes it, try to turn it off.

This is not something sent by services; the IRCd uses this as a 'hack' to propagate correctly who set the topic.

GeniusDex I think nivek98 is refering to this...

[09:04] *** ChanServ changed the topic to: Official home of The Merchant | Magrium the Reaper is taking over development of TM (S-DoG)

Maybe but if another user joins that channel they wont see the name in the ()'s theyll see somthing similar to:
Quote
[13:58:35] * Topic is 'Some topic here'
[13:58:35] * Set by Jobe on Sat Dec 02 12:08:14

What this shows is the IRCd adds the name in ()'s to the end not services.

Yes, i am aware. We've been looking after that once and we do correctly send the topic as if S-DoG sent it; the IRCd transforms it into something else.

What SpaceDoG showed was the problem I am having and yes, I am using Unreal.  I am still confused, are you saing that Unreal is causing it?  Either way, I still need to find a way to stop it.

nivek98, that is indeed UnrealIRCd. And also you only see the name in ()'s IF it has been set on behalf of someone (say by ChanServ). After that nobody sees the name in ()'s but instead see's the message i posted above.

First user to join an empty channel sees:
Quote
* ChanServ changes topic to '*Nix Support (Jobe)'

Second user to join same channel while first is still in there sees:
Quote
* Topic is '*Nix Support'
* Set by Jobe on Tue Jan 23 11:30:18

So as you can see the name is only shown in ()'s when ChanServ sets the topic on behalf of someone else but does NOT remain in the topic for everyone else to see.

So the simple fact is the Nick in ()'s after the topic is NOT part of the topic but instead who set the topic and is not shown in the topic to further users who join.

I see... I've never noticed that before.  If it's only the first person to join that is going to notice that, then it doesn't really matter to me.  Thanks for pointing that out.
