Title: Auto op IRCops?
Post by: ngage on September 16, 2007, 07:03:55 PM
Would it be possible to make a module that will automatically op an IRCop when they join a channel?

Or is this already possible?

Thanks

You can use the superadmin mode which can be set with /os set superadmin on but this would only work for opers with access to OperServ. So a module for this job is not a bad idea. ;)

why would a user deserve to be a chanop on any channel they join just because they are an ircop??

IRCops, operate the SERVER, not all it's channels. Channel affairs should be left to CHANNEL operators

my $0.02

moved to modules as I highly doubt any core coder would agree this needs to be in the core.

for that matter, i don't even think this needs to go into a module either... ircops got nothing to do with channel access imho.
Wouldn't write a module like this cuz I strongly disagree with what it s meant for...

/me is not the "Nuclear weapons are made to save peoples' lives" kinda person...

As much as I agree with you and I'm not going to write it either. Which kinda sucks because it would be very easy to write and very tiny. I also believe that it's not our place to deny the request based on the fact that we dont agree with it.

It's his/her net .. not ours. So if they want to destroy it, it's their prerogitive.

like i said, it was my personal opinion, of course it s not my place to deny it or anything, i could not for that matter, I merely stated that I would not write it  :)

Aww, come on katsklaw :P

But really, if you don't want to write it, fine. I just want it to have some fun with my pals. I do agree with you, however, I wouldn't use it on a large production server.

well sorry, I'm not about to violate my ethics for your entertainment.

Good Luck finding a module coder to do this for free.

/me thinks a client based script would be much easier than a module.

At the same time if you want IRCop's to have status within a channel, why not just add them to the access list? If its say a services channel, they should be on the access list. If you want them opped whether they're idented or not, that could be done with a client fairly easy.

Not like I can make modules anyway. :o (Though I did register as an author haha..)

Can you code it instead of opping IRCop but opping +Sq user on channel join. I have a server bot(ircd) which have mode +Sq. I need to make it to have OP everytime its join a channel (with secureops ON or off it will still remain OP).

I give $40 for this :D
