Anope + UnrealIRCd on Gentoo = Crash
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:53:08 PM »

I'm a gentoo user and a n00b at hand-compiling stuff, so pardon my blantant misunderstanding of all this hand-compiling stuff.

Our network has been using ircservices for a while, and after getting hit with a huge botnet, we've decided to make the switch to anope for its DEFCON system, among other features.  I downloaded the latest stable version from sf.net and tried compiling it. Compiled fine, had to chown <anope user here> in order to get services to run, but it seemed to work OK at first.

Code: [Select]
01:40:22p    _notice            nehq.servebeer.com › *** Notice -- WARNING: Remote doesnt have link::options::zip set. Compression disabled.
 01:40:22p    _notice            nehq.servebeer.com › *** Notice -- (link) Link nehq.servebeer.com -> ircservices.digibase.ca[@127.0.0.1.57901] established.

To test, I tried messaging HELP to nickserv.  I raised an eyebrow when it didn't respond.  I checked my uline.  It was there.

I checked my link, it was there.

I was about to try again when I got yet another server notice:

Code: [Select]
01:43:24p    _notice            nehq.servebeer.com › *** Notice -- No response from ircservices.digibase.ca[127.0.0.1], closing link

So now I'm thinking, What the heck is going on?  I ran through my logs.  Nothing really suspicious.  So I tried the beta, thinking that might help.

Everything compiled fine.  Made the the config file and ran it.

Exact same thing.

Howdy,

Don't use Zip links with the link block for anope, and make sure anope is set as a hub (for jupes to work).

Or drop in on irc.anope.org #anope and i'll help you.
