Services keep quitting
« on: May 23, 2006, 11:27:35 PM »

I'm having a problem where my services keep getting disconnected from my server.  Any ideas why this might be happening or what I can do to fix it?  Thanks.

I think it's "Connection reset by peer".  I don't think my U-Lines are wrong, because it has worked for awhile without doing that.  I've just noticed it recently.

Are you connecting to an ircd on the same box or over the intarweb?

It's on the same box.  I'm running Unreal 3.2.4 and Anope 1.7.14 on Windows XP Home SP2.  I really don't see why it would disconnect services, because it's not like it could be a network connectivity issue, since it's on the same machine.  Thanks for any help.

Actually being on the same box is irrelevent. It's all in the configuration.

Example being if you have Services on a *nix box or even a windows box that happens to be a gateway between subnets and the ircd and services are on different subnets, then it isn't really much different then having the 2 on different computers because you are dealing with 2 physical interfaces.

What would really be helpful is if you would tell us what IP you are connecting to when you connect to your ircd ... as well as the IP used in the RemoteServer field of services.conf. Also, even if this sounds weird .. time how long your connected to the server before it drops you and let us know that too.

You may have a point there.  I use No-IP service so people outside my network can access the server, but it's probably not a good idea how I have it linked to the ircd.  I'm using:

RemoteServer    blakenet.myftp.org 6667 "password here"

I should just use the local IP (192.168.1.101).  I also just noticed that I'm not using a U:Line for the link, I'm just doing it this way:

link services.blakenet.myftp.org

unless I overlooked it in the config (I looked quickly.)  I'm going to try it with the local IPs instead.  Also, it's not on a different subnet.  Thanks for your help.

PS--I just double checked, and I do have a U line.  It's not using the local IP either, so I'm going to make that change.

I tried changing the U line to connect using the local network IP, and I just noticed that when I went back into my server, the services were down again.  I thought that might fix the problem, but it looks like I'm still having it.
