Only kick instead of Ban for joining a protected channel
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:48:22 AM »

Hello,

we've got some protected channels, where only some users have access.

Is it possible to change the behavior from ban to kick only, when a unauthorized person joins this channel?

Sometimes it happens, that my client tries to join this channel first and identify itself then against the nickserv. Then I always have to unban myself to rejoin this channel.

i don't think this should be considered because it would open the channel up to flood attacks... botserv could end up continuously kicking a constantly rejoining user, or multiple users if someone is intend on flooding your channel, they could do so easily.

It can even happen by accident easily.. many clients auto rejoin after a kick.. if someone accidentally joins the channel, they d be in a kick/rejoin loop until someone acts.

Your client should be able to request an unban from chanserv and then rejoin.

Makes more sense this way that you don't cause the looping situation Jan pointed out above.

Also clients that offer the ability to automate joins and id such as mirc script should be configured to id first then autojoin where possible. That way you are id'ed before joining thus preventing this scenario.
