Have to re-identify if changing nick to and from?

Right now if my nick is Trel (registered) and I change to say Trel[Away] and then back to Trel, I have to reidentify.  Is there anything I can change to make it so that's not necessary?

in the 1.7 branch there is an option called NSNickTracking in the services.conf
however i am not sure whether this already existed in 1.6, if it doesn't your only option is upgrading to 1.7

That turned out to be the case so I got the owner to upgrade to the 1.7 line.
