configuring os_superadmin_pass
« on: February 23, 2008, 05:49:45 PM »

Hi All,
I am attempting to install module os_superadmin_pass by GeniusDex
I have made the module and installed it ok but ...
Can anyone tell me exactly where the string 'SuperAdminPass "topsecret" ' is placed? Is it in services.conf? Or elsewhere? The instructions do not make this clear.
I have several other modules installed so sort of know what I am doing, and the problem I am having is undoubtedly down to me being dumb and missing something completely!
TIA for any info offered.

what exactly is unclear about:

"When this module is loaded, you can add a configuration directive (SuperAdminPass) to services.conf"

or unclear about:

Do not forget to add the configuration directives to your services.conf if you want this module to do something. You can specify the password using SuperAdminPass:

SuperAdminPass "MyPassword"

If you want to require a password for services roots as well, you can specify the following configuration option without arguments:

SuperAdminPassRoot

both actually - I have put the 'SuperAdminPass "MyPassword"' in the services.conf - and after that I am in the dark :(

One of those days where I just cannot see something which no doubt is simple.

The configuration is in plain English right in front of your face. It doesn't get any more plain, if you have such a hard time understanding this simple task, please reconsider owning a network.

How patronising!

I hope you never are in a position where you are unable to 'see' something that is 'in plain English right in front of your face...' and get an answer such as you have just given!

Good lord ... you ARE ONE EXTREMELY ARROGANT MAN!!!!!

Unfortunately for you I have been on countless occasions.

I also did not say that out of arrogance, I said it in a blunt and up-front, truthful manner.

In all honesty this task is elementary compared to other tasks that you will face if you continue to be or try to be an admin. It's not patronizing .. it's the cold hard facts that happened to have hurt your feelings.

Let me show you exactly what I mean.

You asked: Can anyone tell me exactly where the string 'SuperAdminPass "topsecret" ' is placed?

The instructions right in front of your face says: "add a configuration directive (SuperAdminPass) to services.conf" Being in plain English suggests you didn't even read the description.

You also said: "The instructions do not make this clear"

The instructions CLEARLY state IN THE SERVICES.CONF .. There is absolutely nothing convoluted about that. Again, it appears you didn't even read it.

I just asked my 11 year old daughter whom has never even heard of IRC to read the description and asked her where would I place the directives, she replied and I quote: "services.conf"

SO don't get pissy at me because the truth hurts.

WEL;L IN THAT CASE THEN I HAVE ALREADY 'CONFIGURED' THE MODULE - BUT I GUESS IT DOESENT WORK AS STILL NO PASSWORD IS NEEDED TO SUPERADMIN UP!

AND YOU TAKE THIS STUFF WAY TO SERIOUSLY!

PRIMADONNA!!!!

Did you perhaps try with Services Root? These are normally exempt from entering a password

Ah .. the very man himself - you wrote said module :)
Thanks for your reply.

I have tried as just a normal Serv. Admin - not a Root one. I figured myself a Services Root would be exempt from a password as I had not included "SuperAdminPassRoot" in the services.conf - had I done that it would have been the answer :)

This is the relevant section of my services.conf: -

SuperAdmin
SuperAdminPass "passwordinhere"

I am correct in my assumption this is just how it should be?

I shall continue looking for what is evidently a problem elsewhere with my particular module :(

In the end I will get there - overcoming problems is how to learn :) lol
