Downgrade 1.9 -> 1.8
« on: March 19, 2010, 09:26:16 PM »

I think I have an interesting scenario here.

Right now, my server is CentOS 5.4 running on a VPS/dedicated server (not sure what to call it).

A year ago, it was running Unreal 3.whatever and Anope 1.8.1 or 1.8.0. And, it had a few people using it.

After some struggles and disagreements with Unreal, it changed to InspIRCd 1.2, which is what its running today.
Of course, at the time this occurred, only Anope 1.9 supported InspIRCd 1.2.

So, now, I have half a database from 1.8 and half a database from a rather early build of 1.9 (as 1.9 can take the 1.8 databases) and I'd like to convert it back to 1.8.3 in the interest of stability and security.
Is this possible, and if so, how would it be done?

It's not possible to downgrade the databases.

Well, would 1.8 accept the database I have?

You could certainly try loading a 1.9 database in 1.8, but chances are it won't work due to 1.9 having major differences than 1.8.  If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work.  There is no fix if it doesn't work.

Well, it did accept it, but it behaved like there was a nick collision.
All the psudo client nicks were things like "3AXAAAAA"

Possibly something to do with the numerics? I dunno. Probably an InspIRCd issue though.

It has to do with the fact that 1.9.x stores the core pseudo-clients as BotServ bots.  That right there is the largest reason why you can't use 1.9.x's databases with 1.8.x.  You could try to delete bot.db but that will delete all your bots, not just the core pseudo-clients.

Heh, that explains why I was able to assign MemoServ to a channel!

Well, all in all it seemed to work, except for that. Which, is a bummer but on such a small network its not a big deal.

Thanks.
