Title: nickserv screwing up passwords

up until recently everything has been fine.
then a couple weeks ago nickserv started randomly changed peoples passwords or something.
when someone would go to identify, it would say their password was wrong, even though it was right.
i figured it might be encryption, so i turned that off, and am still waiting on results from that.
ideas?

Did you check and recognize:

- that the nicks having trouble are not expired?
- the users used "safe" passwords? Many users use sometning like 12345.... so maybe a bot owned their accounts.
- DIsabling the encryption module also forces that all users need to get new Passwords.

the nicks arent expired, they are usually in use daily.
and it seems to happen only to a select few users, and its happened to them numerous times.
and I turned the encryption back on.
I'm thinking now that the databases may be corrupt, is there a way to check?

well i could understand the databases being corrupted preventing anope from starting, but once started anope stores everything in its runtime memory and when saving the db, it completely overwrites it every time...

Did you try database-backups? Appending on our settings you might have daily backups, made automatically by anope

Unless you have debug or log entries proving that it is infact NickServ messing things up, you should look at other possibilities such as os raw usage, data being written to bad sectors on the hard disc and many other such events that could easily cause data corruption.

In short, don't just automaticlly assume it's Anope that's corrupting the databases.
