There should somewhere be either an edit poll button/link or if you go to edit post it might be in there if not a forum moderator or admin will have to change it.

what s wrong with phpbb ? that s like saying unrealircd sucks cause it has a bad history or cause it s popular or so...

been using it for about 2.5 years now, never had any trouble with it... well i never actually used the vanilla version, always used ptirhiik's Categories Hierarchy partial rewrite... complicated admin panel and many vanilla mods don't work on it without modifications, but it s faster and never had a problem...
PunBB s also a decent board from what i heard, but it s very basic and made mainly for speed, not for usability or look & feel..

/me prefers it over IPB and vBulletin

actually, you have no idea how secure it is :o
usually people don't hack into that kinda sites through the sites/boards/weblogs or so anyways, they just use one of many services, of which usually some aren't even up to date. Staying up to date with phpbb is of course the fist requirement to be secure, but that goes for any software.
and if you really think it s so insecure, go find an exploit that will get you into my phpbb 2.1.21 board (note: i have CH installed, which uses a completely rewritten auth system so chances are that even if you find one, it won't work :) )

if you find one, i got a testboard on my linuxbox you could test it on :P

XMB ain't perfect no, but it's simple and does the job well for now. There's no hurry to find a replacement, but we shouldn't stay with XMB forever either...

The captcha in SMF 1.1 RC3 isnt too good as there have been many complaints about its readability. They say theyll be improving the the CAPTCHA for the final 1.1 release. Otherwise i would normally reccomend SMF myself too.

phpBB is great; it is very secure.

Anyone who doesn't understand that any software that is open-source and very popular is bound to be hacked because so many people are looking for ways to hack it is just a noob.

IPB has had far worse problems, especially recently where someone in their staff placed several backdoors into the code, that remotely included files to install a php shell script.

A long as you keep phpBB up to date you will have no issues, like any good software.

In my opinion, the default phpbb2 is horrible, you could modify it though, they even have a public modification database. Phpbb3 is a complete rewrite and I personally consider it better than Invision Power Board. Also, for an ircd, it depends on your network and what its targetted towards.
