Title: remind users on expiry on nick/channel
Post by: gerry on May 27, 2011, 05:48:14 PM
good question popped up from a few members that found their nicks / channels were no longer registered one day  as to why anope doesnt send a reminder to a user when their nick / channel is due to expire re re-registering

any ideas ?

i'm on anope 1.8.5

can this be done as a module or is it a hard code job on a future release of anope

Could be done by a module, but I don't really think it s useful.. obviously, if  it s going to expire, it s because it s no longer being used..

i agree with you there Jan
but you know how it is with users on irc these days lol... a gazillion nicks and the user cant remember what nick is set registered or what heh.. the channel side isnt so bad.. but the nick side of things seem to be in demand if nothing else :)

wouldnt mind trialing a module to see how it takes off though if one can be done please :)

I not so long ago has this discussion with the staff on a large network running Anope for the exact same reasons you raised.

We concluded that it wasn't necessary as people would just use it to horde nicknames so others couldn't use them.

It should be straight forward enough to have a check and alert system for this through a module though but it's not something I see as being necessary within Anope itself directly.
