UseRDB
« on: May 22, 2006, 08:09:43 PM »

Hi there,

I cannot find anything online or in the docs about this, and I am not fully understanding the description in the conf. What exactly is UseRDB?

From the looks of it, it allows me to add new users etc. directly to the data to the mysql database, and have anope use that info on an /os update?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

~Phil~

If I'm not mistaken UseRDB is Use Remote Database which basically means you're going to connect to another computer to store the database.

From services.conf

# UseRDB [OPTIONAL]
#
#    Enable this if you want anope to load its data from a remote database.
#    (e.g. MySQL)
#
#UseRDB

Basically means, if you want anope to LOAD from MySQL on start up.

But no, it doesn't mean you can add users to the db and have it work on os update as anope will overwrite your changes each time it dumps the data. The only way to get around it is to shut down anope, add the user, start anope up with userdb. You might want to look at xmlrpc as a means of having this type of web registration.
