Title: Just a clarifier
Post by: gerry on October 20, 2013, 10:07:33 PM
I'm probably already correct with this but just wanted to clarify..

When you register a nick with nickserv with a given email.. the only way to change that email is to drop your nick and re-reg under the new email yes ?
there isnt a user level command to do this ?

from what i gather.. the ns set email email is just an associated email that any user can see on anyone using the ns info nick command .. it has no relevance to the actual email used to register the nick with and can be changed at will or taken off.

this is on the anope 1.8 series :)

/ns set email does change the original email you registered with.

oh right...

this was something that has been at great debate and needed clearing up!
the anope help thing didnt really help me with the question and seemed to suggest it was just an association .. like with the url command.

thanks for the correct answer there Adam :)

If you issue an /ns help set command you will notice:

-NickServ- Syntax: SET option parameters
-NickServ-     EMAIL      Associate an E-mail address with your nickname
[...]
-NickServ-     URL        Associate a URL with your nickname

the email , the url and many more settings can be changed.

I did see those.. i just felt they were a bit ambiguous as to what they actually meant that was all on a personal side :)
no real biggie. just a thought of possibly editing the help file to clarify exactly what it did as opposed to just "associate" :)

The help files are perfectly clear, sir. I see nothing convoluted about "Associate an E-mail address with your nickname". That is exactly what it does .. "associates" an email to your account.

The address is associative, exactly as described. I'm not sure where the idea of that email address being the address used to register with. IIRC, Anope has never stored the registration email separate from the associated email.
