Botserv bots need less power
« on: June 28, 2006, 02:28:16 AM »

Hi,
first of all, I'm not smart but i got a problem. (and that's maybe two then) ;)

anyway.

if i let botserv assign a bot to a channel it takes allways the & level.
For my purpose I would love to see it having lower level.

How do i do that?

using Unreal 3.2.4 & Anope 1.7.6 (we will upgrade later on to latest version)
we have the same problem on our Ultimate network too btw

There is no option currently to give botserv mots "less" power in a channel.

As far as i am aware the restrictions on what BotServ bots can do are not related to what modes the bot has in the channel. Otherwise the bot would  not be able to +o itself on a channel. So basically you can have the bot modeless in a channel but still able to do everything as if it were +o for example.

So basically apart from cosmetic reasons i see no point in giving the BotServ bot less power on a channel.

it will conflict with many scripts and other bots if it doesn't have +o, yet performs actions for which +o is normally required. a quick example would be eggdrop bots, though i think there s an option for those that can prevent it from making trouble over it, forgot the name though ...

The point i was getting at is why make it appear as if a bot has no power when it does. You're better off making people aware that the bot has power by giving it +o in a channel then letting it perform actions without +o.

BotServ is an opered client on a ulined server, from a technical standpoint .. it has all the power it can possibly have. How exactlly does that show that botserv has no power?? As far back as I can remember .. the average user knows that Services has special access, unless the users have been getting dumber over the years ... I'd assume the same is true.
