"NickServ: Nickname räkoil may not be registered."
We've just enabled UTF-8 support for nicks on our InspIRCd server (actually only a handful of national characters), and would like for people to be able to register their new UTF-8 nicks with services. The logs seem to output correct encodings so the services seem aware of UTF-8 already, they are just blocking registrations for some reason. Are there any plans on implementing this?
There was another thread about this but it was old.

I have utf8 support planned for 2.1, but wouldn't mind allowing you to configure which characters (0-255, non utf8) are allowed in nicks in 2.0.
-
How would I go about doing that?
-
You would have to modify the source and edit IsNickValid()

+1 for UTF-8 support in nicks.
Actually, does anyone know of a good reason not to?

No existing IRCds support it? I'm still doing it for 2.1, though.
